Newman Tournament Notes

The Newman volleyball squad opens its 2010 campaign Friday at the UNO Volleyball Showcase, hosted by the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Newman will face two MIAA opponents (Nebraska-Omaha and Northwest Missouri State) and two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foes (Chadron State and Adams State) during their stay in Omaha. All games will be played at Sapp Fieldhouse on the UNO campus.

THE MATCH-UPS...

Nebraska-Omaha
Friday, Sept. 3 // 12:15 p.m. // Sapp Fieldhouse // Omaha, Neb.
The Jets will open the 2010 season across from the net from the tournament's host team. Friday's match will be the first-ever between the Jets and the Mavs. UNO posted a 20-14 record last season, and finished sixth in an MIAA conference loaded with volleyball talent.

Chadron State
Friday, Sept. 3 // 4:45 p.m. // Sapp Fieldhouse // Omaha, Neb.
The Jets wrap up their first day of the tournament against a Chadron State squad that posted a disappointing 5-21 record last season. The Eagles picked up a 3-2 decision in their last meeting with the Jets, but a Newman win would give the Jets a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Northwest Missouri State
Saturday, Sept. 4 // 11:45 a.m. // Sapp Fieldhouse // Omaha, Neb.
Day two of the UNO Volleyball Showcase will pit the Jets against its second MIAA opponent in as many days as Newman tangles with Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats posted a 14-14 record last season, including a 3-0 sweep of Newman, while finishing seventh in the MIAA. Northwest holds a 3-0 lead in the all-time series.

Adams State
Saturday, Sept. 4 // 6:30 p.m. // Sapp Fieldhouse // Omaha, Neb.
Newman concludes the UNO Volleyball Showcase the same way it started, facing a new opponent for the first time in history. Adams State posted a 14-14 record last season, but finished second in the RMAC West division.
