Jets Present $5000 Check to Child Advocacy Center

WICHITA - Newman University Athletic Club presented a check in the amount of $5,273.50 to Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County on September 12. The proceeds were raised at the Gladiator Dash sponsored by Newman University. Dan Giroux, Athletic Director Vic Trilli and Newman athletes and coaches were there to represent Newman University.

The first-ever Gladiator Dash was created by Dan Giroux, Newman Athletic Club president and Zack Steven, Newman alum, with the idea to support not only Newman University athletics, but a local organization, the Child Advocacy Center, as well. The event was held June 9, 2012. The expectations of the 5k obstacle race were far exceeded for the first year bringing 1,200 contestants to Sedgwick County Park.

There was no question that the Child Advocacy Center was the choice of organization to assist. The support the Child Advocacy Center provides is a service to children dealing with physical abuse, sexual abuse, internet abuse and child trafficking, but also allows support services for parents to help them recognize abuse. The Center's goals for children are to help end problems occurring and provide solutions for the future.

Executive Director of the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County Dianna Schunn stated, “With 4,000 cases a year, this money is going straight to the kids. We thank Newman for the efforts and thinking of us while creating the Gladiator Dash.”

The second annual Gladiator Dash is scheduled for June 8, 2013 with hopes to raise even more money for Newman athletics and the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County.
