WICHITA – The Newman women's tennis team started its fall season at the Wichita Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 7. Freshman
Taylor Jordan took the B Singles bracket championship and led the way to the championship with partner junior
Anna Le in the B Doubles bracket.
In the A Singles bracket sophomore
Lisa Pleskan of Newman went to the finals where she faced Seminole State Helga Pinones-Haltenhoff losing 6-1, 6-3. Teammate
Hillary Hicks loss to Pinones-Haltenhoff in the quarter-finals followed by
Kirstie Symon losing to Pinones-Haltenhoff in the semi-finals. Sophomore
Courtney Dold made it through the consolation bracket winning the championship, 8-1.
Tabor's Karly Lindroth-Yates was the first opponent that Jordan beat 6-0, 6-0 in the B Singles bracket. Jordan kept the momentum as she finished the bracket as the champion.
Newman's
Hillary Hicks and
Courtney Dold finished A Doubles in the semi-finals where Seminole State beat the Jets 8-2. Symon and Pleskan played Seminole State next in the finals, but Seminole held Newman to 8-6.
The Newman champions in the doubles round came from Le and Jordan in B Doubles. The hard fought battle from Nebraska Wesleyan in the finals was not enough as the Jets squeaked by 8-6.
Newman will continue play at the Bethany Invitational Sept. 14.
