TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Newman women's golf team saw its first action of the fall season at the 18
th Annual NSU Golf Classic this afternoon and after the first day of competition NU sits in ninth place out of the 18 team tournament.
The Jets shot 36-over 324 as a team at the Cherokee Springs Golf Course that's hosted by Northeastern State.
Ximena Name is currently tied for 21
st overall in the individual standings and is leading NU after the first day by shooting 7-over 79.
Vicky Gonzalez is in second for the Jets by shooting 9-over 81 and is tied for 34
th in the individual standings.
Alex Patton and
Emily Aird both shot 10-over 82 and are currently tied for 42
nd in the individual standings.
Imkeleen Meyer shot 11-over 84 after the first round of play and is tied for 51
st in the 98-player field.
The Jets are only three shots back from seventh place and ten shots back from being in the top five in the team standings. Fellow Heartland Conference teams Oklahoma Christian (4th), Rogers State (T5th) and Arkansas Ft. Smith (7th) are ahead of NU. Central Oklahoma is currently in first place after day one by shooting 9-over 297.
The second and final round of the event is Tuesday back at the Cherokee Springs Golf Course.
