2/8/2023 2:36:00 PM

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL - Jets Men's Bowling competed in Fairview Heights, Illinois over the weekend at the McKendree Baker Challenge.

The baker event would consist of 40 baker games over 2 days with the top 8 teams going to a bracket to see who would win. The Jets got off to a great start on Saturday, averaging 213 for the first 24 games and would lead the event after the first day of play.
On Sunday the Jets got off to a slow start but would rally in the last 4 games and would finish in 3rd place going into bracket play. Newman would then face the 6 seed Missouri Baptist in the quarterfinals and this match would go all the way to the final game in the best of 3 match. The Jets would split games 1 and 2 and would take game 3 from Missouri Baptist off the last shot.
Freshman Zach Smullen would roll 3 strikes in the 10th frame to force the anchor for Missouri Baptist to get 7 pins on his last shot. However, he would only get 6 and the Jets would win the match with a 205-204 score and a 2-1 victory.

NU would then go up against No. 6 Webber International. The Jets would fire back-to-back 240 games to finish off Webber 2-0 and move to the final match.

Newman would bowl well in another close match but would lose to Midland University in the championship 1-2.

"This was a nice tune up before the last event of the regular season at the Hoosier classic in Indianapolis, on February 17-19." said Coach Billy Murphy. " The guys have been working hard and are primed for a post season run"
