Dear Newman Fans,
Entering our third year of NCAA Division II competition, the Jets are battling for conference championships in several sports. Men's basketball under Newman alumnus Mark Potter, and women's basketball under first-year coach Jaime Green are helping set the standard and bringing exceptional visibility to Newman University and the quality of our student-athletes. After making Newman's first-ever NCAA post-season appearance last year, the Jets men's basketball program has raised the bar this year, scheduling tilts with both Kansas State and Wichita State to tip off the 2010-11 campaign. Additionally, the women's basketball squad will host a nationally-televised game on CBS College Sports against Heartland Conference rival St. Edward's on Jan. 22, 2011.
These games will bring unprecedented visibility to Newman University as the game against K-State will be broadcast regionally on Fox Sports-Kansas City. Since the Wildcats are the pre-season Big 12 favorite, and are projected to be ranked in the pre-season top-five nationally, we would expect highlights to be shown on ESPN and other sporting outlets, as well as in the Topeka and Kansas City news markets. The Wichita State tilt tips off the Shockers' season, and will show the Wichita region that Newman is a top-tier institution. Meanwhile, as the NCAA Division II Game of the Week, the women's basketball team will expose the nation to Newman's values, and will have the chance to make a statement to the Heartland Conference, and the NCAA Division II as a whole.
With this visibility comes opportunity and expecations. This is where we need your support.
We want to continue to attract the best student-athletes possible across the board to compete at the NCAA Division II level at Newman University. Your support helps to provide these deserving student-athletes with equipment, facilities, and the support they need to excel in the classroom, and on the court and field. It will also ensure that Newman athletics will continue to reach new heights with the coverage of our student-athletes. You can make it possible by donating to our "Athletic Excellece Fund" today.
The exposure on the court helps not only our student-athletes and athletic programs, but helps the entire Newman community with brand recognition and creates excitement for our students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Newman is an outstanding place with outstanding people. We want to leverage the opportunity to show Newman University to the world!
Help keep the Jets flying high! Donate today!
