The Newman University athletics department is proud to be involved with Homecoming Week 2016 sponsoring multiple events throughout the week including six home sporting events, a t-shirt giveaway and two free meals.
With Homecoming and Heritage Month activities happening all month, athletics begins gearing up for an exciting weekend with a pep rally inside Fugate Gymnasium at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24. There, students will learn the special player introductions that will be used at the basketball games on Thursday, and can enjoy free pizza provided by athletics.
Thursday’s homecoming basketball games against Texas-Permian Basin start with the women’s game at 5:30 p.m. and is followed by the men’s game at 7:30. Students can grab dinner before the games begin in Gorges Atrium. The homecoming king and queen will be crowned at halftime of the men’s game.
The excitement continues Saturday, with a free breakfast at Gorges Atrium beginning at 10 a.m. Fans can pick up another t-shirt, sponsored by SGA, and take in a baseball doubleheader at McCarthy Field beginning at noon and Senior Day basketball games at Fugate Gymnasium at 1 and 3 p.m., with the seniors for both teams as well as the cheer and dance teams being recognized between games.
There are numerous other events on campus planned throughout the month of February, including sheet decorating, voting for the homecoming king and queen, and the homecoming dance. Be sure to check the calendars for both Homecoming and Heritage Month to stay up to date.
