QUINCY, IL - The Jets were defeated by Quincy in their first road match of the season, in a high scoring affair that featured five goals.
The Hawks were the team to begin the game in dominating fashion. All three of Quincy's goals came in a ten minute span, coming between the 11th and 21st minute. Shortly after the third goal, the Jets were sent down to ten men for the second consecutive game, with midfielder
Victor Machado picking up a straight red card after a foul on a Hawks player.
Despite the setback, the ejection seemed to give the Jets more life in their play that they were desperately looking for.
Carlos Bellosta Manchon scored from the penalty spot in the 31st minute, giving him his fourth goal on the young season.
Less than a minute later,
Alberto Romano scored his first goal of the season to cut the Hawks lead down to just one goal. Felix Tellez Ramierez provided the assist.
Newman had 10 shots in the first half alone, and would add 14 more in the second half, with 16 of the shots registering on target. Despite the strong performance offensively, the Jets were unable to put a third goal in the net.
The team suffered another blow, when
Gael Gonzalez picked up the teams second red card of the match. Gonzalez and Machado will miss the team's upcoming game against Southwest Baptist on Tuesday.
Goal keeper
Micaiah Mann started in goal for the first time this season after
Juan Carlos Cordova had picked up a red card on Thursday. Mann made five saves during the course of the game.
The Jets fall to 1-2-1 and will head to Bolivar, Missouri for their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday. The Jets will open conference play at Fort Hays State the following week.
